Modernism Week’s daily dispatch announcing available tickets and last minute news.
Hello Sunday! The forecast calls for the overcast clouds to dissipate by mid day and blue skies will return to Palm Springs by afternoon. Just remember that today’s events are no longer available online but you can purchase them on-site at CAMP or at the door for certain events. Here’s what you need to know about Modernism Week today!
CAMP
Head to your friendly outpost for an Alfa Romeo Ride Along Experience or stop by during the day for cooking demonstrations in the Ferguson Kitchen. White on Rice Couple returns, revealing the secret to making fabulous fresh rice paper rolls from 2:15pm to 3pm. Also, if you’re the owner of a midcentury home, don’t miss Atomic Ranch’s “Restoring or Renovating your Midcentury Modern Home” Seminar and Tour ($30 for the seminar or tour, $50 for both). Standing room only for the seminar. Purchase tickets at the theater check-in at CAMP.
Tours
Tickets are available at the door for several tours. Go to each tour’s starting location to buy your tickets on-site. Get a feel for the different neighborhoods of Palm Springs by sneaking a peek at the Historic Sandcliff community ($50), Merito Manor which was designed by Barry Berkus ($60), and El Rancho Vista Estates ($65). If you’ve always wanted to see the iconic Edris house designed by E. Stewart Williams ($35), today is your chance. It’s just hit the market so who knows, it might be yours soon.
Alternatively, you can head up to the high desert to visit the newly completed Lautner Compound and take a tour of the iconic Hotel Lautner ($50 CASH ONLY). New tickets were just added to the first-ever Palm Springs Door Tour ($20) presented by Dunn-Edwards and curated by Palm Springs Style. This self-guided tour is designed to be experienced by bike, but you can walk, drive or golf cart-it too! Start at The Saguaro between 11am and 12pm and return for a reception at the new Sago Ballroom & Terrace. Once you’ve had a healthy dose of Palm Springs color, follow it up with “Chromophobia,” a lecture by Peter Stamberg, architect of The Saguaro for a conversation about the near extinction of color in contemporary architecture ($10, hosted at CAMP).
Lastly, remember you can catch the Christopher Kennedy Compound: Modernism Week Show House 2017 ($40) and Chino Canyon Project ($50 – $60). Both are open all day for tours between 9am and 4pm. Buy your tickets at the door.
Parties
If you are all dressed up with nowhere to go tonight, we have you covered! Tickets are still available to some swanky soirees. The Hotel Lautner’s “A Night for Preservation” party and fundraiser will be welcoming at-door guest ($100 CASH ONLY) or drop in for free at Toucan’s for Christopher Kennedy’s Designers’ Party & Polynesian Luau starting at 5pm.
Conversations
Tickets are still available at the door for several lectures with leading authorities on architecture, design and more.
