TOUR: Hidden Frey
One of Modernism Week’s Featured Homes this year is the Hidden Frey, a newly restored 1966 Frey-designed residence that has remained below the radar both literally and figuratively for decades. Unknown to even Palm Springs architectural historians, this unique property is sunken below street level, making it one of the city’s best kept secrets, until now! With their signature flair, Thomboy Properties is restoring this gem and unveiling it during Modernism Week with public tours and a series of special events. Tour tickets are available here.
FILM: “Albert Frey, Part 1: The Architectural Envoy”
Don’t miss your chance to see the first installment of a two-part documentary film series produced by Design Onscreen. This film explores Frey’s early life and work in Europe to his New York architectural accomplishments in the 1930s, including the famed Aluminaire House (which will soon call Palm Springs its permanent home), the Canvas Weekend House, and several of his notable commissions in Palm Springs. LECTURE: “Albert Frey’s Architecture: Technology and Nature in Harmony”
Get a peek into the man’s design processes with this intriguing lecture Palm Springs Art Museum’s Founding Curator of Architecture and Design Sidney Williams. Frey produced beautiful drawings, photographs, and videos of the natural environment. Williams will illustrate her lecture with never before seen examples of Frey’s responses to nature and reveal how it found expression in his architecture. Tickets available here.

Last year the Aluminaire House made the long journey west from New York to Palm Springs.
