Modernism Week’s daily dispatch announcing available tickets and last minute news.

Tickets are no longer available online for today’s events but they are available at CAMP or at the door for certain events.  Remember, cash is preferred.  Here’s what you need to know about Modernism Week today.

CAMP

There are daily cooking demonstrations throughout the afternoon in the Ferguson Demonstration Kitchen, ending with Taco Tuesday  happy hour from 5pm to 7pm.  And if you don’t feel like driving, remember that Uber is partnered with Modernism Week.  Your first ride free up to $15, just use the code MODERNISM.  And if you get peckish, swing by Cheeky’s To Go for the perfect snack.  PS.  The Green Juice is delicious.

Tours

You might snag one of the last remaining spots on the Moving Sam Maloof tour, a follow-up to the lecture on Monday.  This is an all-day tour from 9am to 4pm that will take you to Alta Loma to see the midcentury modern grand master of furniture design’s 5-acre compound.  Also Chino Canyon Project ($50-$65) is open daily for tours.  The Christopher Kennedy Compound is closed today for the Trina Turk and Mr. Turk Fashion Show, but get there early and you’ll still have plenty of time to explore the manse (tickets available at  door for $85).

Lectures & Films

If you’re a fan of Alexander Girard, don’t miss Lost and Found: The Untold Story of Alexander Girard‘s Detroit Architecture ($10) or Michigan Modern: Design that Shaped America ($10) at the CAMP Theater.  Fans of Neutra should not miss the West Coast premiere screening of Windshield: A Vanished Vision at Camelot Theaters, with reception afterwards at the V Palm Springs Hotel ($18-$75).

Use the quieter time during the midweek to catch the many exhibitions happening around Palm Springs during Modernism Week.  Catch the E. Stewart Williams, Architect: Palm Springs Modern Master exhibition  (free) or the FAST FORWARD Architecture of William F. Cody ($10) both located at the Palm Springs Library.  The Palm Springs Modern Committee presents the St. Theresa School Student Projects – architectural models of iconic architecture by a new generation of 6th grade modernists, Tuesday and Thursday (free). Also catch Modernism With a Twist nightly at CAMP.  Choose “Sexy” or “Culture” alternating each night or attend both if you have time. ($45, 5pm to 6:30pm).
