Designer, storyteller, collector. 2016 Mod Squad just might be our most diverse & creative one yet.
With so much to see during the eleven-day celebration of mid-century design, architecture, and culture, we’ve enlisted the help of the Mod Squad – a hand-picked group of today’s most inspiring designers, bloggers, creatives, and more – to capture Modernism Week through their eyes. Each month we’ll be highlighting some of these talented tastemakers on the blog, as well as learning more about what “modernism” means to them when they take over Modernism Week’s Instagram each week leading up to February.
THE DESIGNER
Eric Trine is an object-based studio artist and designer, living and working in Long Beach, CA. His work embraces a classic Californian path to modernism: clean, simple, casual, approachable, mixed with an unabashed use of color. Trine received his Master’s Degree in Applied Craft and Design from the Oregon College of Art and Craft in 2013, and promptly moved back to Southern California to launch his eponymous design studio. The studio focuses on furniture and product design for the home, and small-scale design/build for commercial clients. His work has been featured in the New York Times, LA Times, Wallpaper*, Elle Decor, Sunset, and Luxe magazines and many others.
Follow him at @etrine, and check out his Instagram takeover on the @modernism_week feed on November 10th!
THE STORYTELLER
Marianna Jamadi is half Finnish, half Indonesian, and 100% cool. While her roots are in LA, her heart is in a perpetual state of wanderlust. The avid traveler freelanced in fashion and photography until 2013, when she embarked on a year long adventure around the world that had her chasing the midnight sun in the Arctic Circle, hopping on the Trans-Siberian Railway, climbing the sand dunes in the Gobi Desert, and scuba diving in Thailand. She documented the entire trip on her travel blog, Nomadic Habit. She also co-founded El Camino Travel, a one-of-a-kind travel company that encourages people to “Be a traveler, not a tourist.”
Keep up with Marianna’s global adventures over at @nomadic_habit, and see what modernism means to her when she takes over @modernism_week on November 17th.
THE COLLECTOR
Eileen Lee is one half of a collector duo, with roots in the Midwest uncovering treasures, antiques, decor and cultural artifacts for living. Along with co-founding Tawas Trading Co, Eileen spearheads Creative Whatever, a creative lifestyle agency based in Venice Beach, specializing in content creation, digital strategy and creative services for fashion, design and lifestyle clients.
