New Architecture Tours for Modernism Week 2023

M Picks Out a Few New Modernism Week Tours That Will Surprise and Delight

Novices and loyal attendees alike will have their design curiosity piqued by the home tours on the Modernism Week schedule in 2023.  The underlying theme this year seems to be wonderment, fun, and an even more colorful expression of modernist impulses through a contemporary lens.

Three Modernism Week Featured Homes grace the program this year:

Modernism Week Featured Home: Yoasis

The Yoasis, playfully named for its location at the intersection of Yosemite and Oasis, is an original 1965 home re-imagined by Grace Home Furnishings with an unusual blend of both Bohemian and Hollywood Regency style. Michael Ostrow and Roger Stoker’s unique direction on “Bohemian Regency” is a welcome escape from reality.

Modernism Week Featured Home: The Shag House

The SHAG House is a colorful plunge into the world of Palm Springs-based painter, designer and illustrator SHAG.  Known for his distinctive artistic style that draws from midcentury culture, his work – and now his house – are imbued with an attitude and a sly sense of humor which are unmistakably of our time.  SHAG devotees should not miss the First Look or the Big Reveal Party.

Modernism Week Featured Home: Hi-Sun

The third Featured Home is Hi-Sun by H3K Home + Design. This 1963 Charles Du Bois design by the Alexander Construction Company is located in Palm Springs’ beautiful Vista Las Palmas neighborhood. Sip poolside cocktails during the Hi-Sun After Dark Cocktail Party.

Visitors to Palm Springs all recognize and probably wonder what lies behind the striking brise-soleil on Alejo Road.  No reason to wonder any longer, when instead one can wander through the halls of the Villa Alejo, the sleek modern condo complex behind the brise-soleil. This is a special treat for the architectural lookie-loo.
