Get a sneak peek at the Eichler Palms, the newest Desert Eichler to join the neighborhood and a Modernism Week Featured Home.
Just around the block from several other Desert Eichlers, the newly-dubbed Eichler Palms welcomes guests through a sunny yellow door. This modest but updated home is a modernized version of an original Eichler house designed by Anshen + Allen, part of KUD Properties‘ selection of Desert Eichlers. It’s the seasonal pied-a-terre to HGTV’s Stay or Sell hosts Brad and Heather Fox and their young family. The Minneapolis couple specialize in restoring midcentury modern homes and designed the interiors to bring their Midwest style to this charming home. Think: Midwest Meets Midcentury in the Desert.
Heather tapped into her North Star State roots bringing Minneapolis-based brands Room & Board and Hygge & West to the party in the desert. Almost every room including the outdoor living area features Room & Board furniture and accessories, a heritage brand synonymous with American craftsmanship. Our fave is the requisite retro-inspired curved couch in the living room. (Because what self-respecting midcentury modern would not have a curved couch, right?) In the bedrooms, Heather showcases Hygge & West’s unmistakable and charming wallpaper. (One half of the duo of lawyers-turned-empresarios-of-cozy behind Hygge & West also lives in Minneapolis).
Large glass sliders open up onto the backyard and garden, blurring the boundaries between indoor and outdoor and offering gorgeous views of the mountains. Throughout the home, look for beautiful contemporary rugs by FLOR. By blending contemporary patterns with warm materials, bright pops of color with vintage touches, Heather has created an accessible new brand of midwestern midcentury-inspired modernism for millennials.
“The center open air atrium is pretty amazing, but the giant walls of glass are our absolute favorite. When we wake up in the morning, we see the mountains shining through with that amazing orange Palm Springs morning glow! And let’s not forget that pool- outdoor living in MN and CA are very different.” – Heather and Brad Fox
“We loved taking a home that already had amazing mid century modern architecture and just adding it the right amount of fun and color for our style,” said Heather Fox. “We knew we wanted to incorporate color in a different way than we would’ve in our Minneapolis home. I love that because it’s a vacation home, it’s almost expected to be bright and lively. It was unlike any other design I’ve created. I scared Brad when I told him I wanted “themed” rooms…. but promised it would be done without it feeling cheesy. The pink room, the palm tree room, etc. We really love how it all turned out and feel like it has just the right amount of kitsch!”
Don’t miss your chance to visit with the hosts. Tour the home during Modernism Week, and get your tickets for the Eichler Palms Social Party, hosted by Brad and Heather Fox to celebrate being the new modernists on the block. The Eichler Palms Social Party is on Friday, February 15 from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
